I absolutely love teaching this kindergarten math unit!  The kids love all of the hands-on activities we get to do, and I love how easy it is to keep them engaged.

Try a few FREEBIES from this math unit! I hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Our kindergarten didn’t have a math curriculum that aligned with the common core standards.

I set out looking for one, but could never find units that included:

★ Pre and Post Tests

★ Standards checklists

★ NO PREP worksheets

★ NO PREP problem solving activities

★ Critical thinking journal prompts

★ Centers

★ Games

★.....and more!

So I finally created a unit for each kindergarten common core math domain, and I am so excited to share them with you.

Included in these units are everything you need to teach the standards throughout your school year!

Right now, we are tackling Measurement and Data!

I did my best to organize this unit as I do all my math units - so it is easy for you to implement and use.  I keep my math units in three-ring binders.  I use page protectors to keep my lessons and black lines organized – no more filing cabinets to dig through!

I love this because it keeps my papers nice and smooth, and it is so easy to flip through and see what I have to grab exactly what I need.

This is a peek at what I use for pre/post tests for this unit.  The tests are exactly the same, but the numbers, pictures, etc. are different.  This will give you accurate data for growth.

I also send home standards checklists to parents so they have a heads-up as to what we are working on in math.

I do this before all of my math units.  This way there are no surprises at report card time and parents can help at home.

These are great to slip in my lesson plan binders too! Since there are only three common core standards in this unit, two sheets can print per page (other units make up a whole page.)

A peek at the worksheets and NO PREP activities

I have found that they key to success with this unit is practice, practice, practice.

I use a variety of approaches and techniques so my students are exposed to the vocabulary and strategies for solving these problems over and over again.   It is easy for them to mix up terms such as length, height and width... so we do lots of hands-on activities and reinforcement worksheets.

The worksheets and activities help my students tremendously.  They need the repetitive practice, and even better they really love these activities!  These help me stay organized so I know I am hitting all the standards.

Here are a couple of our class favorites... try them for FREE!

Before we do this worksheet, I model for them how to use cubes to measure objects.  Then I send them back to their tables and set out a tub of Unifix Cubes on each table.  We practice measuring our pencils, scissors and a few random objects that I give them.

Then we do this Measure and Record worksheet for reinforcement!

My kiddos LOVE graphing! I spend a whole week collecting data and doing graphing exercises with them.  It is so much fun!

A peek at our Math Centers for Measurement and Data

8 different centers are included, and you can even print one for FREE to try with your students.

These activities are so engaging for students.... it is always fun when they forget that they are learning.

A few require manipulatives, and some you can simply print, laminate (optional) and you're set!

I include a recording sheet with my centers for a few reasons, but the main reason is to hold students accountable.

I can't be at every center at the same time, and so I expect my kiddos to be on task even when I am not there.  A recording sheet is a great check-in with students.

These posters can be printed on a full 8.5x11 paper or card stock, or you can print them smaller in your printer settings and have them on a binder ring.  Whatever works for you!

I laminate them and simply hang them above a work center.  They are a great reference tool while students make their vocabulary books.
