FOURTH DAY OF KINDERGARTEN

Our district always starts school on a Wednesday, so originally, my first week plans only had three days of lessons.

I have had so many requests to extend my free first week of lessons and activities to five days for those of you who go a full first week.

If you have already signed up for my free first week of kindergarten email course, you do not need to sign up again here! These freebies and lesson plans are already on their way to your email inbox.

This blog post shows you everything that I teach on day four of kindergarten and I’ll email you so many free activities!

When you sign up with your email at the top of this page, I share everything I do from 8am - 3:00pm with you.

I take you step by step in my lesson plans for the entire first week of school!

WHAT DO I TEACH ON THE FOURTH DAY OF KINDERGARTEN?

If they are labeled free, these activities are headed to your inbox, or some can be printed right here on the blog!

My goals for the fourth day are:

  • Activity #1: Environmental Print Unit (continued from yesterday) - FREE

  • Activity #2: Pout Pout Fish Goes to School read aloud and activity - FREE

  • Activity #3: Teaching students how to use Boom Cards (with audio + self correcting!) - FREE

  • Activity #4: Kindergarten Readiness skills alphabet, numbers, counting, sequencing, etc. - FREE

  • Activity #5: How to Be a Good Friend read aloud and activity - FREE

  • Activity #6 - Introduce Math Centers

  • Activity #7 - The Magical Yet read aloud and activity - FREE

  • Activity #8 - Letter Aa alphabet book, maze and bracelet - FREE

Of course we also continue to work on rules, routines and expectations throughout the day.

I am also finishing up our back to school assessments.

Let’s get started!

Today, instead of the centers I have been putting out in the morning, we start our morning work!

You’ll absolutely love this morning work - it is a total game changer.

This was actually the very first resource I ever created because I couldn’t find morning work that covered the exact standards we were working on each month that my students could be independent with.

The skills and format stay the same for multiple days in a row so they need very little direction or help.

Students are absolutely loving singing along with the embedded songs, figuring out our daily joke and participating in our morning meeting message.

This calendar kit truly has it all! It comes in both Google Slides and PowerPoint versions and it is editable to meet your needs.

You can purchase it HERE

A GLIMPSE OF THE ACTIVITIES HEADING TO YOUR INBOX!

My lesson plans will walk you through how I each these activities and how I have my entire day planned.

I want to set you up for success!

I read Pout Pout Fish Goes to School, and then we complete these activities.

This is a great opportunity to talk about feelings, attitude and friends.

Save your voice and watch it on YouTube!

We absolutely love using Boom Cards™.

Have you used them before? You are in for a treat!

Boom Cards™ are an incredible way to teach and reinforce key standards we are learning about. They can be used in your classroom or at home, and they can be accessed on a computer, iPad or even using a free app on your phone.

After hearing other teachers rave about how wonderful Boom Cards™ are for their students, I bought a few for my own children and quickly I was hooked. Now I am making my own and sharing them with you!

Why we love them:

  • It is easy to differentiate for students

  • Boom learning collects all the data for you - how many problems students got right/wrong, how long they spent on a problem, etc.

  • You can assign activities using SeeSaw, Google Classroom or directly on the Boom™ platform

  • Practice all the standards - reading, math, phonics, sight words and MORE!

  • Students are engaged and always ask for more decks

DAILY KINDERGARTEN READINESS WORKSHEETS

You’ll love how easy this daily program is to implement!

It covers so many basic skills we are working on at the beginning of the school year in kindergarten.

I start the program on the fourth day of school, and I am sending you a free week to try!

You can read more about the program HERE

We read How to Be a Friend and discuss social skills and ways to be a good friend.

I read this book a couple time throughout the year including when I teach our Friendship Unit (usually in February.)

Social skills must be explicitly taught, and many children do not get these skills at home.

After reading, I introduce students to our I Can friendship posters and we practice/act them out.

The cut and paste activity is FREE and will be in your email inbox soon! The I Can posters can be purchased HERE

MATH CENTERS

I introduce THESE MATH CENTERS to students today, and we use them for the first 6-8 weeks of school.

Students use these with my assistant while I am finishing up our back to school assessments.

I am sending you a FREE assessment to use with your students, and these math centers can be purchased HERE

READ ALOUD AND FREE ACTIVITIES

The Magical Yet by Angela DiTerlizzi

The word YET is such a powerful tool. Sure, you can’t tie your shoes, YET, but you will be able to someday. Maybe you can’t climb to the top of the play structure, YET, but just wait.

This powerful book reminds kids that if they set their minds to it, they can accomplish anything. Encourage students to keep trying and one day, they will succeed!

These FREE activities will be in the fourth day of school email I send you.

I hang the poster in our room to remind students all year to use the word YET.

FREE ALPHABET ACTIVITIES

I use these alphabet activities in our literacy centers, but during the first few days of school I am teaching students the routines and expectations for these activities so eventually they will become independent with them.

Today, we do letter Aa mini book, maze and bracelet, and I’ll be emailing you these FREE activities to do with your students too!

Be sure to sign up for my FREE first week of school email course at the top of this page if you haven’t already done so!

I’ll be emailing you by daily plans along with so many free activities.
